Must-see destination in southern Croatia
Dubrovnik is an historic city which right on the Adriatic. The compact old town contains the area of most interest to day-trippers interested in historic sites and sampling the local food. You can take a walk around the well-preserved high walls to enjoy impressive views of the coastline and islands beyond, or take a boat to the nearby islands. The Strada (main street) contains the usual tourist shops and eateries, but you can explore the streets just beyond for more choice. There are small sandy beaches outside the ancient city walls which can be be very busy. All the main sites in the old town can be seen in an afternoon.
It is usually very hot in the peak summer months, so be sure to bring a hat and sun block.
